Supporting Mind, Body & Gut Connection
Your gut is more than digestion, it’s the cornerstone of your overall wellbeing, influencing energy, mood, immune, hormones, and brain function. When your gut is out of balance, it can ripple across every system in your body.
At The Gut Guy, Emma Hickey, our resident Gut Health Naturopath, combines evidence-based functional testing, personalised nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle interventions to help you uncover the why behind your symptoms and achieve lasting health.

Why Did Emma Become a Naturopath?
Emma’s entry into the field of natural health began after a parasite infection as a teenager left her in the hospital and completely derailed her health for years afterwards. As she began her long journey back to health, she was introduced to all sorts of modalities and teachings, most of which were unhelpful and some of which were potentially harmful.
It was a difficult and disempowering situation to navigate without any sort of formal training, and a lot of effort with little improvement in symptoms.
However, as she became more immersed in the health space, Emma’s interest was captured by the research on particular foods and the mechanisms of how they worked in our bodies.
Broccoli could reduce the risk of cancer, blueberries could improve eye health, and eating fish could improve your memory?!
She was fascinated by these sorts of findings, and knew that she needed to learn more and make this her career. This led her to move to Canada to study a diploma in holistic nutrition, where she was taught and mentored by naturopathic doctors, herbalists and functional medicine practitioners, and her passion was fuelled.
She returned home to Australia to graduate as a Naturopath after completing 4 further years of study which built on the areas of nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle approaches, and honed her clinical skills.
Today, Emma’s work with clients continues to be grounded in the principles of her beginnings: an understanding of the lived experience of a health journey, and a passion for uncovering answers and passing on an understanding of why the body acts the way that it does.
